Don’t Wait to Seek the Care You Need
If left untreated, hand injuries can get worse over time. While many injuries will heal on their own, it’s up to you to monitor the symptoms and seek care when warning signs appear. Even a small cut has the potential to become infected and cause extensive damage to the hand.

Overuse Injuries
Not all hand injuries are caused by a single event. Many injuries develop slowly over time due to overuse and repetitive activity. Some examples include:
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome – A common chronic condition caused by overuse. This occurs when pressure is put on the median nerve in the wrist, resulting in pain, tingling, numbness, and swelling.
- Tendonitis – Tears in the tendons of the hand lead to pain and tenderness in the wrist. You may also have a difficult time moving the hand or wrist.
- De Quervain’s Disease – The tendons covering the thumb side of the wrist can become inflamed. If the swelling is bad enough, it can become extremely difficult to move the thumb without pain.
