Urologic disorders affect millions of Americans — male and female, young and old. The field of urology addresses a wide variety of disorders and diseases including:

Treatments we offer:

At Methodist Dallas, we offer available comprehensive treatment for urological diseases, abnormalities, and disorders, including:

InterStim®

InterStim is an implant that emits mild electrical signals to help relieve overactive bladder (OAB) and incontinence. Methodist Dallas Medical Center is one of the few hospitals in North Texas to offer this treatment, which can often improve overactive bladder and incontinence symptoms by 50 percent or more and, unlike other treatments, is wholly reversible.

Before insertion, the InterStim implant is attached outside the body for three to five days. If the overactive bladder or incontinence symptoms improve by more than half during this trial, the InterStim implant can be surgically placed inside the body. The procedure takes no more than 30 to 60 minutes, and people are usually out of bed within a day and back to normal activities in about two weeks.

The Dornier® System

The Dornier® System is a digital imaging system that can be used to diagnose and treat urological diseases and disorders. The system can aid in the removal of stones in the urinary tract, endoscopic treatment of the prostate, removal of bladder and urethral tumors, and treatments for incontinence.

Robotic-Assisted Prostatectomy

If you're faced with prostatectomy following early diagnosis of prostate cancer, the da Vinci® Robotic-assisted Surgical System can provide an alternative to traditional or laparoscopic surgery. With da Vinci® prostatectomy, the likelihood of a complete recovery from prostate cancer without long-term side effects is, for most patients, better than it has ever been.

The da Vinci Surgical System — a minimally invasive approach utilizing the latest in surgical and robotics technologies — is ideal for delicate urologic surgery, including prostatectomy, in which the target site is not only tightly confined but also surrounded by nerves affecting urinary control and sexual function.

Using the da Vinci Surgical System, your surgeon has a better tool to spare surrounding nerves, which may enhance both your recovery experience and clinical outcomes.

With a traditional prostatectomy, your surgeon uses an 8- to 10-inch incision to access the prostate. This approach often results in substantial blood loss, a lengthy, uncomfortable recovery and a risk of impotence and incontinence.

Potential benefits of da Vinci prostatectomy can include:

  • Less blood loss
  • Fewer complications
  • Less scarring
  • A shorter hospital stay
  • A faster return to normal daily activities, including urinary and erectile function
