Diagnostic x-ray at the hospitals of Methodist Health System

What is X-ray?

X-ray image of handX-ray, or radiography, is the oldest and most common type of medical imaging – in use for more than 100 years.

X-ray tests pass small amounts of radiation through the body and onto a film made of special material. The radiation waves pass through some tissues but not others, creating an image on the film. The image can reveal broken bones, joint problems, and advanced forms of bone cancer.

Who needs X-ray?

X-rays are recommended when a doctor suspects a broken bone or joint problem. X-rays play a crucial role in orthopedics and sports medicine.
